This is the first post of the new blog and the new year so it will be short, but hopefully informative.
The Soviet union made the AK 47 in 1947, hence the 47 in AK47. This model was originally built with a machined receiver, but when it was discovered that a sheet metal receiver works just as well and much cheaper and faster to construct, the "AKM" was invented.
Being proud of themselves, the Soviet Union used to "donate" AK47s and AKMs to pro-communist regimes to further the communist cause world wide.
One such "brother in arms" was China.
China, being the stereotypical leopard who cant change its spots, took the Soviet gift apart, reverse engineered it, and made their own version called the Type 56.
Realizing how effective this Type 56 is, and how cheaply it could be made, the Chinese decided to make them in large numbers and sell them, instead of giving them away.
Aside from pissing off the Soviets, years of this behavior brought the market price of these rifles down to nearly giveaway prices, thereby completing the circle.
In fact, here in the US we pay the highest legal market price for Semi-auto versions of the type 56.
The market in North Africa for Type 56s is currently under $30 per rifle. Kalashnikovs are just under $120.
Classic Kalashnikovs are for the most part unavailable here in the US, due to Import restrictions, etc..
If you have a kalashnikov you are wanting to part with, lets chat~
